Ok guys, as you may or may not know, several of us in clan are writing a history of Cult and the characters contained within.
The General theme is that the Cult is made up of several once noble, but now declining households.
As one example, we have the House of Errare who are a saurian warrior people from the deserts surrounding Donas.
If you wish to read the story of the Errare then it can be found on the main website.
Being a member of a family has no real impact on how you play, it is merely a common interest that is designed to help and create a world in which Cultists can rp with the realms. However, for any rp to work there must obviously be some sort of level of consistency. At present, there is no restriction on which family (if any) you choose to join. House Syldalath which is made up almost exclusively of halflings could if desired, have members from any race presently in the game.
My question is, how do you feel about imposed restrictions on which family you join?
To give you an idea on what I mean, here are some examples.
House Errare is a predominately Saurian clan, made up of brutal warriors that populate the wastes. In order to join House Errare, you must either be a saurian, goblin or a half orc. Barbarians/Berserkers can join whatever race.
House Demonica is a fallen Duskan household who for generations have used witchcraft to keep them looking young and beautiful. The same witchcraft has now fouled the bloodline and the last two surviving Demonicas (Masquerade and Malefica) are looking to adopt people in to the family who meet their standards. In order to be adopted in to the family, you must have a charisma score of 18+.
House Giseroth is a clan of dark elves who populate the Isgallak Labyrinth near Freelance. Its members are cruel and spiteful, often torturing their captive victims. To join the Giseroth family you must be Dark Elf.
Those are three examples of how rp restrictions could affect which families your characters may join.
Or, we could just allow it that any character can join any family.
That is basically my question.
For those who flatly do not wish to join any family, that is perfectly fine as Cult accepts independents.
And also, nothing I have listed in this thread is neccessarily how it is going to be, these are just some ideas I have come up with in my lunch hour.
What do you think?
